Stringent Standards for Selection
We carefully screen hundreds of applicants to find responsible, flexible,
dependable, and patient human beings with a sincere desire to care for
others. We choose individuals with excellent communication and problem
solving potential, who can adapt to new clients and situations.
Applicants undergo complete criminal background checks and drug
screening, and are bonded, insured and covered by workers' compensation.
Your HCA aide is regularly evaluated by an HCA nurse supervisor to ensure
the highest quality of care. Ongoing education programs at HCA
continually help to improve and broaden your aide's skills.
Trained and Trusted to Care
HCA
is widely recognized for success in recruitment and training. Our
nationally-recognized training program requires four weeks of extensive
learning about diseases and the development of a full range of clinical,
communication and problem solving skills. A specialized curriculum on
aging and care of the elderly is included. Aides complete 60 hours of
clinical content; 30 hours dedicated to personal care skills; four hours
of job shadowing; 6 hours of demonstration; and 50 hours dedicated to the
'soft skills' -such as communication and resourcefulness - that are
essential to good job performance.
Award Winning Training Program
With help from the Pew Charitable Trusts, HCA was able to develop
training for workers to acquire advanced skills. Aides in this program
receive specialized instruction in caring for physically disabled adults,
behaviorally disabled adults and hospice patients. Aides completing this
specialized training are eligible for a wage increase and guaranteed
hours of employment. For its innovative approach to job training and
health care services, HCA has been recognized with the Governor's
Achievement Award, the American Society on Aging's
Best Practice Award, the Better Business Bureau's Best Health Service
Award and the Philadelphia County Assistance Office's Employer Recognition
Award.
